Welcome from Tania and Ali to Le Douar des Arganiers, our personal guest house on Morocco's paradise coast. Its name brings Swiss French and Moroccan together - just like we do - and means “The hamlet of the argan trees”.You'll find these extraordinary trees here in abundance. Almost a symbol of Morocco and this region, they're as famous for their exquisite oil as the goats who accomplish miraculous feats climbing them to enjoy their favourite feast.Nestling in the midst of this idyllic countryside on the Atlantic coast between Essaouira and Agadir, you'll find the small traditional Berber village of Sidi Kaouki and our guest house. And just a ten-minute stroll from Le Douar des Arganiers you'll find an immense sandy beach, much-admired for its sweeping expanse and superb surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. We fell in love with this village and set about creating our dream. A guest house with a personal touch that's a haven of peace and beauty. A place that’s also our home, combining the cleanliness and order of the Swiss with the kindness and welcoming warmth of the Moroccans.Built of local stone using natural materials and traditional techniques, Le Douar des Arganiers complements the beautiful landscape of its setting and respects the environment in more ways than one, including by running exclusively on solar energy.
Our love of this land is also reflected in a real commitment to the environment, so that everything in our guest house runs on solar energy, with:
- solar panels for electricity and hot water
- a well that is powered by solar energy
- an ecological wastewater purification system which produces clean water we use to water the gardens.
Le Douar des Arganiers is a story that began when we first came to this magical area. It was then that we dreamt of creating a guest house built of traditional Moroccan materials to create a home in the image of this magnificent, welcoming and warm-hearted country.
At Le Douar des Arganiers we want to share our love for this still unspoilt region, which has everything you could desire for a deep sense of well-being - the ocean, pure air and perfect peace.
Terraces
Two sun terraces with a magnificent panorama over the ocean and surrounding countryside are available to all guests for sunbathing and breakfast.
Restaurant
A delicious, freshly-made Moroccan or continental breakfast will be prepared for you every morning at Le Douar des Arganiers, with your own choice of home-made bread and jams, Moroccan pancakes, fresh fruit and yogurt. Enjoy a taste of paradise when you awake, immersed in the countryside by the ocean!
Our cook will also be delighted to prepare sumptuous Moroccan lunches and dinners to order, offering genuine tagines, couscous or grilled freshly-caught fish. All our dishes are prepared with the finest local ingredients, selected from what is available at the market on the day. Let us know your dietary preferences and we will do everything to make your stay a feast for all the senses.
Rooms & Suites
Le Douar des Arganiers offers a choice of four suites, each with a distinctively different character, but all providing 30 square metres of floor space, a double bed (or two singles), a sitting room area with fireplace, a shower room and your own private terrace.
The buildings create a sense of calm thanks to their beautiful local materials and the furnishings complement this with natural cotton, linen and wool. The decor in each suite is refined and restrained, while displaying many unmistakable touches of traditional Moroccan style.
Situation
Located just 10 minutes from the beach, Le Douar des Arganiers breathes the ocean air, but is just far enough away to avoid night-time humidity. Set in its own private gardens, it combines peace and seclusion with an immediate connection to the traditional village life of Sidi Kaouki.
Sidi Kaouki is a 15 min car drive from Essaouira's Mogador Airport and around 2h30 from Marrakech (185 km) and 3h from Agadir (160 km).
There are 2 flights a week from Paris Orly to Essaouira Mogador and several a week from Casablanca. In addition, many airlines offer numerous flights a week to Marrakech Menara Airport, including Royal Air Maroc, EasyJet, Jetforyou, Ryanair and TAP.
We can organise private taxi transfers by trusted drivers from Marrakech, Agadir and Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki, costing:
- Around MAD 700 (Euro 64) from Marrakech or Agadir Airport.
- Around MAD 150 (Euro 14) from Essaouira Airport.
There is also a comfortable coach service (Supratour) to Essaouira from Marrakech and Agadir (around MAD 70 or € 6.50).
If you want to hire a car in Essaouira to explore the region as you please, we can recommend reliable car rental companies to help you.
But if want to experience the Moroccans' favourite mode of transport, try a shared "Grand Taxi". They're often crammed to capacity but always cheap and cheerful, and a great way of meeting the locals.
