Dar Les Cigognes

#283

Description

Location

Marrakech is situated on the high plains (1,000 metres altitude), against the backdrop of the High Atlas Mountains, which are a 45 minute drive away.
Dar Les Cigognes sits between the Royal Palace and the Mellah (the old Jewish quarter in the heart of Marrakech’s famous medina). Unlike most properties in the medina, Dar Les Cigognes has its own street access, making it easier for guests to come and go, to grab a taxi when they go out, and to find their way home!
The hotel is opposite the Kasbah (with the Royal Palace of Hassan II, the Kasbah Mosque and the Saadian tombs), and next door to the Badi and Bahia Palaces. It is a five minute walk to the Jemaa el Fna and 10 minutes walk to the Agdal Gardens.

Rooms

There are just eleven rooms at Dar Les Cigognes, ensuring personal service, a true boutique hotel. Each room follows a unique design theme, drawn from the rich artistic tradition of Morocco. Please click here for room rates, terms and conditions.

Three classes of rooms are offered: Superior Rooms, of which there are three; Deluxe Rooms, of which there are seven; and finally, one Suite.

All rooms have air conditioning, telephone, and safe. Many rooms have fireplaces. Most rooms have bath and shower.

The Zouak and Tataoui Superior rooms can be twinned; the Deluxe Silver Room and the Sahara Room can be twinned, thus allowing families increased privacy and togetherness.

We have opted for cool and soothing colours in the courtyard, while the rooms each take their cue from a different region of Morocco. You will find Berber designs represented, as well as the craftwork of Fes and the other imperial cities. Throughout, we have stayed true to the spirit of a traditional Marrakech riad, but have updated it to suit the requirements of discerning guests.

Courtyards

In a traditional arab house, a riad, daily life centres around the central courtyard. Here you will find fruit trees and a fountain, the gentle sound of which washes away the stresses of the day. By day or night, you will find the courtyard a comfortable place to read or enjoy a drink.

The courtyard is like another room. Most often, it is open to the sky. If the terraces are roof gardens, exposed to the sky, the courtyards are almost like indoor gardens, with their fruit and palm trees.

Protected as it is by the thick outer walls of the building, a riad courtyard is always warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, than it is outside.

At Dar Les Cigognes, in one courtyard four massive columns soar all the way to the roof. In the other, there are six columns each with carved stucco lintels. Dark stained cedar wood balustrades and beams line the corridors and opening to the sky, setting off the cream colour of the tadelakt courtyard walls, and the many carved stucco arches. The public rooms are arranged around the courtyards on both ground and first floors.

Terraces

The views of the medina and royal palace from the roof terrace are some of the best in Marrakech. Here, the din of the city seems far away. Marrakech, with its pinks and ochres, is a glorious sight, all laid out before you. On a clear day, you can see straight to the Atlas Mountains and their snow-capped peaks.. There are places to sit to enjoy the sunset over Marrakech. Storks fly lazily overhead and clack their beaks like castanets as dusk falls. Sunset, with minarets in the distance, is an unforgettable sight and especially magical moment.

Many guests enjoy the sun, a meal, tea or an evening drink on the terrace,. which is terrace is planted with roses, orange trees, grapefruit, bougainvillea, cactus, jasmine, pomegranate, apricot, peach, and many other trees, shrubs, and bushes.
